Go Pink 2024

by

October is considered Pink Month because it is dedicated to raising awareness and educating people about breast cancer, the most common type of cancer and the leading cause of death among women worldwide.

According to information from the World Health Organization (WHO), it is estimated that one in every 12 women will develop breast cancer during her lifetime. This is why, during this month, campaigns are promoted to increase early detection, treatment, and palliative care for this disease.

Breast cancer prevention saves lives, which is why it is recommended to maintain a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of developing this disease:

  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Follow a nutritious diet
  • Engage in daily physical activity
  • Avoid alcohol and tobacco
  • Avoid prolonged hormone use

Additionally, consider that certain factors can increase your risk of developing breast cancer:

  • Age over 40, although it can occur earlier
  • Family history of breast cancer
  • Starting menstruation before the age of 12 and late onset of menopause
  • Women who have their first child after age 30
  • Women who have never been pregnant

Breast cancer is a silent disease because it doesn’t always show signs or symptoms. This is why women are encouraged to perform regular breast self-exams to detect any abnormalities, and from the age of 40, undergo a mammogram every one or two years, as recommended by their specialist.

At EXPLORA TOURS, we understand the importance of raising awareness about self-examinations and timely screenings for women on the island.

For the second consecutive year, we are joining forces with the municipal DIF system to reach out to women who need support in caring for their health, DONATING 60 MAMMOGRAMS, as part of our commitment to the community and the ongoing improvement of their health.

“Woman, love life, defend your dreams, break your barriers, and… EXPLORE yourself. It’s worth it.”
