General Info
The time has come to harvest the flower of which it is said that “the petals keep the heat of the sun and illuminated the way back to the deceased”; It is the flower of the 20 petals, the one called by the Mayan grandparents Xpujuk, the flower of Cempaxúchitl.
Its aroma awakens the souls because the party is coming, the winds of the deceased are already felt and we have to prepare the candles marking the course towards the offerings; it is time for Xibalbá to wake up, its legends come alive because it is time for Hanal Pixán.
With great joy and enthusiasm, we share that our 6th of Hanal Pixán in Pueblo del Maíz is coming, because the time has come when we will honor those who have transcended with a great party where the legends of Xibalbá come to life. As every year, it is of great importance for Pueblo del Maíz to contribute to the strengthening of our identity through the recovery and dissemination of the traditions inherited from us by the ancient Maya,
On these special dates, we want to share with the community and tourism in Cozumel an ancestral tradition of great historical value, as well as a leisure activity in these beautiful ones so full of joy and festivity in Isla Cozumel.
Hanal Pixán will take place from October 31 to November 2 with 3 tour schedules, 6, 7 and 8 at night at the facilities of Pueblo del Maíz. Within the activities, we will have 4 different activities for a stay of 2 hours in the park.
We will start with the interactive play “The defeat of Vucub Camé”, a work that as is tradition, its cast is composed of the local community that wants to share their talent on stage. In this representation, we give life to one of the legends of the Popol Vuh, in which the sacred twins travel to Xibalbá to face one of the gods of the underworld, Vucub Camé; This work, due to its interactive nature, involves the audience in the sequence of each act.
Later the work-workshop, “The mortuary trousseau”, a work in which the public will be a fundamental part in the activities of the palace of the ruler since they must make the funeral arrangements since it has been announced that the Ajaw will begin its trip to Xibalbá.
Once again we are pleased to receive in Hanal Pixán the local Cozumel talent of Maribel Pulido, creator of the project “Brigi Canta Cuentos, We will enjoy songs and stories for children and for the family. The legends come to life in a fun way through the music and stories that grandparents inherited and that today are part of our rich culture.
Our party to the souls also enjoys the delight of the dishes of these dates, again we open our doors to the community that will offer its traditional dishes for sale, in this way our event contributes to the local families.
This year we launched “Photo and Video Contest in Cell Category and Professional Category”, rewarding the first places with a day at the Anemone Beach Club of the Sea.
As every year, Pueblo del Maíz appreciates the participation of the population and youth of Cozumel, joining the different activities of the event and thus, contributing to their training and personal growth through the development of these cultural activities.
